The clients are native New Englanders returning home after a decade living abroad. The house is a traditional Chestnut Hill Tudor that was in need of updating. The challenge was to preserve the fine architectural detailing of the residence while meeting the needs and aesthetics of a globe trotting 21st century family. The vision for this happy great room was that it would serve as the informal gathering place for family & friends. A space for relaxing and casual dining. For the seating and window treatments we chose a combination of durable fabrics along with vibrant woven and embroidered textiles, which reflect the energy and style of this family. The furniture layout is ideal for television viewing and casual get-togethers. The custom designed television credenza hosts the client’s favorite movies, board games and A.V. equipment. Soft-skirted sofas in combination with the ottoman make this room comfortable, inviting and easy to use. Oversized lighting adds drama and visual interest. Artwork from the family’s collection highlights their time residing in Hong Kong and London. Spurring memories and conversations, the art completes the great room as the heart of the home.
